ROSHI and pROSHI does not require the client to consciously
attain a specific mental state. The brain is able to process
the information when it is producing healthier patterns of
self regulation without the need for awareness. Most clients
often report profound feelings of relaxation, of feeling focused
or an improved sense of well being during the sessions as the
changes in the brainwave patterns emerge. This makes the session
so easy that even children as young as four years of age can
benefit from the training. In the most recent generation of pROSHI tools, Chuck Davis has introduced, the Neurodynamic Activator™ pROSHI II+
pROSHI and ROSHI training does not “entrain” brainwaves. It
does not use light or sound to force the brain to produce particular
brainwave frequencies. Instead, ROSHI training feeds back
information to the brain that tells the brain when it’s own
dynamics are more stable. Some Neurofeedback and ROSHI practitioners
do use entrainment devices and protocols as well as evaluation in
conjunction with Neurofeedback training. I do not use such
devices, nor diagnose nor treat medical or specific conditions.
How Does It Work?
The brain must be able to move quickly and easily between
all states, including hyper focus, relaxed focus, excitement
and relaxation. When the brain gets stuck in unhealthy patterns
of activity it loses its ability to move easily between states
or to maintain a state when required. The ability to move between
states is flexibility and the ability to maintain a
state like focus is resilience. Self regulation is the
ability to use flexibility and resilience to respond appropriately
to the both the internal and external environment. ROSHI
session helps develop healthy patterns by forcing the
brain to use neural networks that it needs for self regulation.Scientific
researchers have shown ROSHI exercises the neural networks
in the brain and allows creation of new connections. Thus,
the brain improves its ability to self regulate by using and
strengthening neural connections. With better self regulation
the brain finds it easier to maintain a healthy state
and allows it move more easily between states. When we need
to focus ,we won’t become distracted, but when we need to stop
thinking and go to sleep, we can do that as well. The happy
brain is flexible and resilient.
What Does Brain Self Regulation
Have to Do with the Conditions that may improve?
The disorders that reportedly respond well to ROSHI training
can all be described in terms of the flexibility and resiliency
of the brain. For instance, in anxiety, a person is easily
aroused and finds it difficult to relax once aroused. A person
with anxiety has a brain that has difficulty resisting arousal.
This is a measure of resiliency, and a brain that is easily
aroused in an inappropriate situation is not resilient. Once
aroused (upset and anxious) a person with anxiety cannot relax.
They become stuck in a state of arousal. This is a measure
of the brain’s flexibility. A person with anxiety cannot move
flexibly between states. Because training promotes resilience
and flexibility, a person with anxiety will find that they
can enter situations that will no longer produce an inappropriate
state of arousal (they become resilient) and if they do become
upset, they will be able to calm themselves down without producing
anxiety (they become flexible). In effect,a person who
cannot reduce thinking that might produce anxiety, the likelihood
of anxiety may be significantly reduced by ROSHI training.
Migraines can also be characterized in terms of flexibility
and resiliency. Migraine headaches can usually be attributed
to some triggering event such as a particular food or stress.
The brain reacts to the trigger. ROSHI training may reduce
the number and severity of migraine headaches by promoting
resilience and flexibility. Improving resilience reduces the
chance that the brain will "react" and "improving
flexibility" allows the brain to move back into a balanced
state more quickly. Many migraine suffers find, not only are
the number of migraines reduced (increased resiliency), but
that when warning symptoms begin, indicating that
a migraine is about to start, a migraine episodemay never
occur (increased flexibility).
How Does ROSHI Training Help with Sleep Disorders?
Interestingly, just because someone gets 8 hours of sleep,
that does not mean that they sleep well! People who have
trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep, sleepwalk, have nightmares
or night terrors or who wake up feeling tired may exhibit symptoms
of poor attention, hyperactivity, low energy, depression, irritability
and trouble with memory. These symptoms will often resolve
themselves when sleep improves. Like the waking state, the
sleep state also requires flexibility and resiliency. Flexibility
is needed to move from waking to sleep and to move between
the various stages of sleep. Resiliency is needed to stay asleep,
to stay in a sleep stage for as long as required, and to not
be aroused inappropriately so that one has nightmares or night
terrors. Clients often report that they are sleeping better
after ROSHI training begins.
What are the Primary Benefits reported by users of
ROSHI Training?
The primary benefits reported are:
- Improved concentration and focus, better sleep
- Increased mental clarity and ability to process and organize
information
- Increased ability to "self
quiet"
- Decrease in impulsiveness
- Decreased physical hyperactivity
- Reduced anxiety, mental chatter and mind racing.
- Reduced pain
- Greater capacity to handle stress.
- Improved sports performance
While not a medical treatment,
pROSHI and
ROSHI sessions have been shown to be a powerful addition
to traditional therapies for the following conditions:
- ADD/ADHD, Learning disabilities
- autism, Asberger’s Syndrome
- Closed head injury, stroke, epilepsy, migraines
- sleep disturbances, some types of apnea, bruxism
- anxiety, OCD, depression
- “brain fog”, mental rumination,
aphasia
- PTSD, addiction
- immune system disturbances: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue,
arthritis, MS, lupus
- chronic pain, neuropathy
The time frame of the session is unique to each person and may be as short as 10 minutes, up to 90 minutes, and can be tailored to address the comfort of the individual. Clients
new to the process will have many questions during the first
session and we schedule time so your questions can be
answered. The ROSHI practitioner places EEG sensors on
the client's scalp using gel or conductive paste. These sensors
are connected to a computer which monitors the client's brain
waves and records the session. After the session, the client
may watch their brain patterns. The practitioner monitors
the process and makes suggestions to the client to keep the
training session as optimal as possible. The session is usually
considered very relaxing and non- intrusive, and the client
may well “nap” during the treatment.
